Spring is on the way, so now is a good time to start practicing good boating habits.

You love your boat, right? Keep it as clean as the day you took your first voyage by maintaining a sparkly clean interior. Regular cleaning will keep nasty mold, mildew, and dirt buildup at bay so you can comfortably enjoy every moment on the water. Just follow our easy step-by-step guide to achieve a spotless boat.

Start With the Right Boat Cleaning Products

Before you get started with cleaning a boat interior, you’ll want to equip yourself with the right cleaning products. Don’t start scrubbing until you have everything ready to go from the list below.

Step 1: Clean the Boat's Bilge

The bilge is the lowest part of your boat. Since it’s so low, it can quickly accumulate sludge, oil, and rust. Start by draining the bilge of dirty water. Scrub the bilge with a scrub brush and bilge cleaner to remove excess dirt. Finish up with a thorough rinse and towel dry.

Step 2: Clean the Interior Hard Surfaces of the Boat

The hard surfaces of your boat consist of nonslip fiberglass, wood, and the cockpit. Clean these surfaces with soap and warm water or a boat interior cleaner. Once you’ve cleaned all surfaces, give everything a good dry with an ultra-absorbent towel .

Step 3: Clean and Vacuum the Boat Seats

Your seats get a ton of use—especially if you love taking your friends and family out on the water. What you don’t see is dirt and debris trapped between the seats. Take a vacuum hose and suck up any loose dirt from the seats. Next, use soap and warm water or a boat seat cleaner to wash away any remaining dirt.

Finish the boat seat cleaning by drying the seats with the Absorber® .

Step 4: Clean and Vacuum the Marine Carpet

The carpet of your boat gets plenty of traffic, but it’s also susceptible to excess water. If you don’t regularly clean your boat’s carpet, mold and mildew can easily start to grow from soft surfaces.

Begin this step by vacuuming loose dirt from your marine carpet. Next, scrub the carpet using a boat brush and carpet cleaner. You might have to use an extension pole to reach those hard-to-clean areas.

Step 5: Dry the Boat’s Interior Surfaces

The final step is the fun part.

Reveal your sparkling clean interior with the help of the Absorber® . This powerful towel dries drenched surfaces in half the amount of time it takes a regular terrycloth or chamois. Easily remove stubborn stains, dust, and dirt with the only towel boaters love.
